Dairy Goodness Bar Releases 2016 'Flavor Of The Fair' Finalists

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Summer hasn't officially begun and we're already looking ahead to August and the Great Minnesota Get-Together!

For the second year in a row, the Midwest Dairy Association is asking fair goers to help choose the newest malt flavor at the Minnesota State Fair Dairy Building.

The inaugural "Flavor of the Fair" in 2015 was the Salted Caramel Puff, a vanilla malt or sundae topped with caramel sauce and Old Dutch popcorn.

The nominees for 2016 include That's My Jam, Scotch Hopper Crunch and Call It Breakfast.

That's My Jam is a vanilla malt topped with pepper jam and crunchy oyster crackers. It's a new take on the sweet and savory.

Scotch Hopper Crunch also has a hint of crisp but uses shoestring potatoes to achieve the affect. This vanilla malt also includes butterscotch chips and chocolate syrup. The inspiration behind the treat was dipping fries into a malt.

Finally, Call It Breakfast is a vanilla malt that channels a Sunday morning breakfast. It comes with sprinkles, chocolate and latte-flavored syrup and is topped with chunks of bakery-fresh donuts.

All flavors can be made into sundaes as well.

Malt lovers can cast their vote online now through May 25. Voters are encouraged to share their pick on social media using the hashtag #DairyGoodnessFlavor.

The one with the most votes will be crowned the 2016 Flavor of the Fair.

If none of the flavors tickled your fancy, be sure to submit your pick for the 2017 Flavor of the Fair contest at the Diary Building this summer.

Vote for the 2016 flavors at the Midwest Dairy Association online.
