Patrol: Pedestrian Fatally Hit By Semi On I-94 Was Wearing Earbuds

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minnesota State Patrol says a pedestrian was fatally struck Tuesday by a semi on Interstate 94 in Minneapolis.

The collision happened shortly before 11 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of the interstate that run under Interstate 394. The pedestrian died at the scene.

The state patrol says the pedestrian, who was wearing earbuds at the time of the crash, was crossing the southbound lanes of I-94 when he or she was struck in the left lane of traffic.

The driver of the semi is 28-year-old Robert R. Jones of Fridley. His physical condition has not been documented.

Lt. Tiffani Nielson says that the eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 have been closed, with traffic diverted to Interstate 394 and Hennepin Avenue. The closure is expected to last several hours.

This is the third fatal collision on metro roads Tuesday morning.

Earlier, a head-on crash in St. Paul killed two drivers, and a 24-year-old woman died in a rollover on the Mendota bridge.
