MPCA & MDH: Harmful Algae Could Bloom Early

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota authorities are warning lake-goers that harmful algae may be in the water early this year.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and the Minnesota Department of Health say a mild spring means blue-green algae could bloom early.

It is found in lakes all over the state, and can be harmful to people and animals.

Two people got sick last year, and several dogs died after exposure.

Experts say avoid water with algae that looks like pea soup or green paint, and be sure to rinse off pets if you think they swam near it.
