After 5-Year Drought, Gopher Baseball Earns NCAA Tournament Bid

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- For the first time in five years, the Gopher baseball team is headed to the NCAA Tournament.

The NCAA announced the field of 64 teams Monday, and the Gophers earned the No. 2 seed in the College Station Regional hosted by Texas A&M. The Gophers will play No. 3 seed Wake Forest on June 3 at 3 p.m.

The other two teams in the Gophers' region are host and No. 1 seed Texas A&M and No. 4 seed Binghamton.

The Gophers earned their berth off of a 34-20 season with a 16-7 conference record. They earned the top seed in the Big Ten Tournament, but were eliminated after losses to Iowa and Michigan.

The Gophers last made the tournament in the 2010-2011 season. They were eliminated with losses to fellow Big Ten teams Ohio State and Michigan State.
