Special Session Talks Back On For State Leaders

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — It's time for a special session status check.

Gov. Mark Dayton and legislative leaders planned to meet Wednesday to discuss their hopes of calling an overtime session. They hope to find compromises to revive a $260 million package of tax relief and pass $1 billion in public construction projects.

But they'll need to bridge wide areas of disagreement to get it done. An ideological divide over funding mass transit projects could threaten the public works package. Dayton and Democrats say it's essential, while Republicans don't want to fund it.

Dayton previously vetoed the tax bill, citing a wording error. But he says he won't call lawmakers back for a fix unless it's accompanied by extra spending on public construction.
