Bridgewater Embracing Role As Vikings Leader On Offense

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Vikings had to cut short their practice at mini-camp Tuesday because of rain, but they have had ample time to continue in their evaluation of Teddy Bridgewater and how far he can throw the football.

Teddy Bridgewater knows how to the throw the football. He just wants to throw it deeper more accurately. He thinks he found a flaw that can help him do just that.

"It's just finishing throws. I put the tape on from last year and there were a bunch of throws where I probably wasn't finishing the throws," Bridgewater said. "Following through and things like that, causing the ball to sail and things like that."

There is another ingredient that teammates think makes a difference. That is spending time together, including in Miami this offseason.

"All the time we spent together. That offseason passing camp that Teddy had, just the time invested in that and the energy that we put forth," Stefon Diggs said. "Teddy looks really good just as far as spinning the ball. He looks strong too."

What they really want is not so much distance, but the football going across the goal line. In other words, just find a way to win the game that day.

"I still go back to great quarterbacks winning. That's the thing that this guy does. He's a winner," coach Mike Zimmer said.

And beyond arm strength, that means taking another step as the team leader.

"Man it's great. You walk in that huddle and all 10 guys' eyes are on you and it's silent. You talk about having total control, I love it," Bridgewater said. "I've been able to sit back and watch Chad Greenway and the way he leads the defense, Brian Robison, Everson Griffen, Linval Joseph, and those guys have command."
