Bloomington Schools Gets $20K Grant To Support Homeless Students

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Bloomington Public Schools has received a $20,000 grant from the Minnesota Department of Education to support services for homeless and mobile students in the district.

Called the McKinney-Vento grant, the Bloomington School District will use the money to target under-identified homeless youth from birth to 5 years old and high school students. Staff in the school district will work to identify homeless youth and connect them with services to increase their success in school.

The grant will help ensure that district officials and staff work together on implementing schoolwork, services and classroom activities to solidify support of homeless and mobile students in the district. Officials in the district say the number of homeless youth in the district has increased over the past two years and is expected to grow.
