3 Finalists Selected For DNR License Plate Contest

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Three finalists have been selected to be the potential new look for the Minnesota State Parks and Trails license plate.

Officials with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources say voting for the new plate starts Monday and will close at 5 p.m. Monday, July 4. A winner will be announced on Wednesday, July 6.

More than 80 license plates were designed for the competition. A panel of judges looked them over based on creativity, quality, representation of Minnesota state parks and trails and suitability for a license plate.

The winning plate will be available in October, and the cost will start at $60. The plate itself is $10 and there is a minimum $50 contribution.

DNR offiicals said people who purchase the license plate make an annual contribution to a special state fund that goes directly to support Minnesota's parks and trails. It also gives buyers free entry to any state park or recreation area for the year. The plates replace the need for a vehicle permit.
