Winning Parks & Trails License Plate Unveiled

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources unveiled the winning design for the next state parks and trails license plate Wednesday.

The winning design was selected after more than 30,000 votes were cast, and came from Michelle Vesaas of Coon Rapids.

The image shows a canoe docked along a river and depicts Minnesota's four seasons.

"My design was inspired by being in the outdoors in this beautiful state through all four seasons," Vesaas said. "Even in the coldest days of winter, if you're dressed for it, there is incredible beauty to be found."

The license plate, which marks the 125th anniversary of the state's parks and trails, will be available this fall for $60 -- broken down, it's a minimum $50 donation and a one-time $10 fee.

The license plate then allows owners unlimited access to all 75 state parks and recreation areas.
