Mpls. Locks Closed To Recreational Boats Due To High Water

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is closing the Minneapolis locks to recreational boats because of high water flows.

Lower St. Anthony Falls Lock and Dam and Lock and Dam 1, located near Minnehaha Falls, reached flows of 30,000 cubic feet per second on Saturday. Regulations require the Corps to close the lock and dams to recreational traffic at that level because the high flows are unsafe.

Commercial traffic at those locks continues.

Boaters are reminded to be careful when boating in the area, because Mississippi River currents are high.
