Minneapolis Police Make Arrest In Shooting Death Of 2-Year-Old

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis police have a suspect in custody in the shooting death of a 2-year-old boy.

Le'Vonte Jones was riding in a minivan the morning of July 8th when a car pulled up alongside the van and someone inside opened fire. Le'Vonte was killed, and his 15-month old sister hurt.

Police arrested 31-year-old Chris Welch today. He's being held at the Hennepin county Detention Center on Probable Cause of murder.

Authorities say LeVonte's father, Melvonte Peterson, returned fire during the shooting. He's charged with illegally having a gun, and using it in a drive-by shooting.
