Inmate, 69, Dies In Custody At Wisconsin Jail

SPARTA, Wis. (AP) — Monroe County authorities are investigating the death of a 69-year-old jail inmate.

Staffers were checking cells at the Monroe County Jail early Saturday when they found the man unresponsive in his cell.

An ambulance took the inmate to the Mayo Health System Sparta campus, where he was pronounced dead.

The name of the inmate was not released. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office and the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office are investigating.
