Woman Charged With Pawning Sister's Jewelry, iPad

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 56-year-old woman faces felony theft charges after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars' worth of jewelry from her sister.

The Dakota County Attorney's Office says Patricia Carolyn Kampmeyer's sister alerted Bloomington police in late April after she noticed about 10 pieces of jewelry and an iPad Mini were missing from her residence – worth more than $4,600 in total.

The victim told police that she suspected Kampmeyer, who she says struggles with substance abuse and has been living with her since the beginning of the year.

The criminal complaint says investigators went to area pawn shops and found that Kampmeyer had brought a jade ring to a Bloomington Pawn America in early January; the iPad to a Burnsville Pawn America store a few days later; and an emerald ring to the Bloomington location in early April.

Kampmeyer initially denied the thefts to her sister and to police. She accused her sister of misplacing the jewelry due to being a "hoarder."

She eventually admitted to pawning the iPad as well as the jade and emerald rings because she was "upset" with her sister.

She has not taken responsibility for any of the other missing jewelry.

Kampmeyer has been summoned to appear in court on Aug. 15. She could face up to five years in prison if convicted.
