Gov. Dayton Releases Tax Returns, Says Trump Has 'No Excuse'

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Amid the controversy surrounding Donald Trump's refusal to release his income tax returns, Minnesota's governor has released both his 2014 and 2015 tax returns.

The Office of Gov. Mark Dayton and Lt. Governor Tina Smith announced the release Thursday, providing links to both of the tax returns.

In 2014, Dayton reported a total income of $380,030 from his Governor's salary, dividends and capital gains. His taxable income was $350,306 and he paid federal taxes of $72,011 and state taxes of $32,551.

In 2015, he reported a total income of $384,656 from his Governor's salary, dividends and capital gains. His taxable income was $352,901 and he paid federal taxes of $73,098 and state taxes of $32,931.

His effective tax rate for both years was 30 percent.

Dayton commented on his tax returns shortly after their release.

"Given that my candidate for President has released her tax returns, I have continued my long-standing practice of releasing my tax returns as well," Dayton said. "As a candidate for President, Mr. Trump has no excuse for not releasing his tax returns. The people of Minnesota and the nation should know how their public leaders earn a living."
