Black Wisconsin Sheriff Stars At Nevada GOP Rally

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (AP) — A black sheriff who was elected as a Democrat in Wisconsin stole the show at a rural Republican rally on a ranch in northern Nevada.

Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. took aim at what calls the "Never Trumpers" during the 2nd annual Basque Fry sponsored by Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt and his conservative political action committee.

Clarke urged Donald Trump's doubters to put aside any reservations they may have about the billionaire real estate tycoon and help him defeat Hillary Clinton for the good of the country.

He says they need to check their ego and get over the fact that whoever they preferred for president did not win the GOP nomination.

Clarke says the thing he likes most about Trump is that he is a "fighter." He says the past two Republican nominees — John McCain and Mitt Romney — lacked that sort of spirit.

He says Romney had President Obama "on the ropes... staggering" after their first presidential debate in 2012. But he says Romney backed off because he didn't "want to come off as picking on the black guy."
