A Taste Of Politics At The Minnesota State Fair

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- If the State Fair is the Great Minnesota Get-Together, politics at the fair has the feel of family argument at the dinner table.

The most popular attraction at the Republican State Fair booth this year is a cardboard cutout of Hillary Clinton -- in a prison uniform.

It's a sign of State Fair discontent.

"Not a fan of Hillary," one fair-goer said. "I don't trust her...because of all the shenanigans she and bill have done over the years."

Donald Trump buttons are the biggest sellers at the Republican booth.

You can also buy a Trump wig and hat.

Democrats lined up to see Gov. Mark Dayton at the DFL booth.

Also popular were a President Barack Obama cut-out, along with one of Bo, the first dog.

"Very popular with the kids," one DFL booth worker said.

One woman was giving away free hugs – an antidote, she said, to Trump's message of hate.

She added that she'd even give Trump a hug, if the Republican presidential candidate asked for one.

Some fair-goers forsook Clinton and Trump. Instead, they headed over to the Libertarian Party booth, wanting to know more about candidate Gary Johnson.

"You got Trump. You got Hillary. There's no choice!" one fair-goer at the Libertarian booth said. "I wouldn't vote for either one of them! She's a thief. He's an idiot."
