Vikings: Adrian Peterson Placed On IR After Knee Surgery

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Vikings announced Friday that the team has placed its star running back Adrian Peterson on the reserve/injured list.

The move means Peterson, who had a successful meniscus repair surgery Thursday, is out for at least eight weeks.

"There were no additional injuries or issues noted in or surrounding the knee joint during the surgical procedure. The rehabilitation process will begin immediately," the team added.

Peterson injured his knee in the team's victory against the Green Bay Packers last Sunday.

In a rule changed by the NFL this year, since both Peterson and left tackle Matt Kalil are on injured reserve list, the team can bring one of them back after 8 weeks, but one of them will have to be done for the season. The team doesn't have to decide until later which player it wants to bring back.
