Minneapolis YWCA Celebrates 125 Years With Renovation

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A downtown Minneapolis landmark just got a major makeover, and on Sunday the public got a chance to check it.

YWCA Minneapolis is celebrating 125 years, and unveiling the extensive renovation of the downtown location on Nicollet Mall. An open house was held on Sunday to give everyone a chance to see the new space.

Everything from the early childhood education classrooms to the locker rooms and swimming pool has been redone.

"We have been in downtown Minneapolis since 1891 and we've been on this corner since 1928. This is the 1976 building and we have done a refresh, top to bottom," YWCA Minneapolis Interim President Mary Jones said.

You can join the fitness center downtown at a discounted rate during the month of October. YWCA programs continue to focus on social and racial justice, and empowering women.
