State Patrol Investigating Fatal Head-On Crash Near Plainview

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A motorcyclist died Sunday in a head-on crash in southern Minnesota, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Authorities responded at about 4:07 p.m. to Highway 42 north of Plainview on a report of a head-on crash involving four people and three vehicles. The State Patrol says a 2011 Ford Edge was heading northbound on Highway 42 when it collided with a PT Cruiser and a motorcycle, both in the southbound lane.

The State Patrol says the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as 34-year-old Christopher R. Nelson of Eyota.

Authorities say a 70-year-old Rochester man driving the PT Cruiser was not injured, nor was a 69-year-old passenger in the vehicle. A 35-year-old Kellogg man driving the Ford Edge suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The State Patrol is investigating what led up to the crash. They were assisted at the scene by the Wabasha County Sheriff's Office and the Plainview Police Department.
