Rookie Kris Dunn Getting Early NBA Crash Course With Timberwolves

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves open their season Wednesday night in Memphis.

Among the interesting story lines: First-round draft pick Kris Dunn. As WCCO's Mike Max found out, he's had an NBA crash course and he's found something else he needs a lot of work on.

Dunn is a hit making an appearance at a Minneapolis McDonald's. He's young enough he can still work fast food into his diet without thinking.

"I can't do it if I was 30 so I'm going to get it all in now," Dunn said.

His bigger focus is at the Target Center. His rookie season, and he's spent training camp trying to figure out what this jump to the NBA really means.

"I got to see how the NBA works, got to play with my teammates, got to finally be on an NBA floor," Dunn said. "I went through my struggles early on, but I'm a fighter in life."

It's a crash course: Understanding your role, understanding your teammates.

"In high school and college, the ball was always in my hands. Now I have so many great players around me I can feed off those other guys," Dunn said. "Just attack when the time is ready."

Back at McDonald's, the fans are adoring with some lofty goals.

"It's definitely going to be an exciting year but it takes a lot of hard work. Championships just don't come easy," Dunn said.

Something else is not easy for Dunn. It turns out working the drive-thru, like an NBA fast break, it moves quickly.

So maybe he should stick to basketball for now.
