Burglars Steal Gold Bars, Life Savings From St. Paul Home

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police in St. Paul are seeking the person(s) who stole several gold bars and a woman's life savings from her home Saturday evening.

According to the St. Paul Police Department, just before 6:30 p.m. officers were called to a robbery on the 1600 block of Abell Street.

Upon arrival, police learned a 33-year-old woman and her 57-year-old mother live in the home. The younger woman told police that several gold bars and cash had been taken from the house.

During the investigation, the younger woman told police both her and her mother had left that morning to go to work. At around 6:20 p.m., the younger woman returned home and noticed the side door had been pried open.

When she entered the home she noticed someone had gone through their belongings.

While investigating, the older woman told police the thief had stolen her entire life savings. She told police she didn't trust banks so she kept all her money in the home.

Police said her retirement savings consisted of $60,000 in cash, 100 1-ounce gold bars and a diamond ring valued at $36,000. The gold bars were worth roughly $127,000.
