1 Dog Dead, 2 In Critical Condition Following Hopkins Poisonings
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Dog owners in Hopkins are on edge.
Many are refusing to let their pets out of their sight after several dogs in a Hopkins neighborhood were exposed to dog food tainted with antifreeze.
Since late September, three dogs have eaten the tainted food. One dog has died and two others are in critical condition.
Sgt. Michael Glassberg says he wants others who may have had a sick pet to come forward.
He says the poisonings are happening in the 200 and 300 blocks of 9th and 10th avenues north.

"Our neighbor, their dog got very sick, he was at the vet multiple times and [the dog] almost died," said Channing, a woman who lives in the area where the poisonings occurred.
She said her neighbor found dog food under his deck. After his dog got sick, police were called in to investigate.
"We ended up getting a portion of that food tested," Glassberg said, "and it was confirmed that there was antifreeze within that."
Police are looking for the person responsible.
"We are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the resolution of this case," Glassberg said.
Police are also asking residents to monitor the area where their pets roam.
"People just need to be vigilant when you are taking your animals out," Glassberg said. "Make sure you are keeping an eye on them, make sure you are keeping an eye on the yard."
For Channing, she is not only concerned about her neighbor's pets, she's concerned about her children and others in the neighborhood.
"I don't want them putting that in their mouth exploring and they find something that's dangerous or that could make them really sick," she said.
Hopkins residents can use the Tip-411 app to send an anonymous text, photo or video to police.
Glassberg says anyone in the Hopkins area who has seen something suspicious or has recently had a sick dog is asked to call police at 952-938-8885.
