Man Gets Life Without Parole In St. Paul Auto Parts Store Killing

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A St. Paul man has been sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for killing another man outside an auto parts store in St. Paul.

A jury Thursday night found 35-year-old Daryl Negel Curtis guilty of premediated first-degree murder in the June 12 death of 31-year-old Renaldo Terez McDaniel.

Prosecutors say McDaniel had just bought a fuse when Curtis shot him three times because Curtis suspected McDaniel of involvement in an earlier nonfatal shooting of Curtis' cousin.

Ramsey County Attorney John Choi says the verdict brings some measure of justice for a violent and senseless act.

But public defender Carol Finneran says Curtis continues to maintain his innocence.

Curtis already had had a murder conviction on his record from 2000. He got out of prison in 2014.
