Twin Cities Digging Out From Weekend Snow

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Many people across the state spent Sunday digging out of the snow.

WCCO's Nina Moini shows us the efforts to keep the roads clear as another work week begins. Before some St. Paul streets cleared, neighbors started tackling sidewalks.

"I don't want to use snow blower right away because I don't want to bother people right away on a Sunday morning," Aaron Ludvigsen of St. Paul said.

Working for open paths took most of the afternoon, ahead of Sunday night's scheduled snow emergencies for both of the Twin Cities.

"Yeah it's nice to have four-wheel drive right about now," he said.

Aaron Ludvigsen chose a short-sleeved shoveling outfit to tackle six inches in his front yard.

"I just get warm doing it. I know it's like 19 degrees out but I get kind of warm," he said.

Also breaking a sweat are some of the Minnesota Department of Transportation's 1,500 hundred full-time snowplow drivers. They're covering more than 30,000 lane miles across state highways.

"It looks pretty white right now which looks nice. I'm not excited for it to get brownish," Ludvigsen said.

Sunday proved the warmer of the weekend days, helping a constant sprinkling of salt work to melt compacted ice on the roadways.

It gave neighbors a chance to stop and enjoy the first big Twin Cities snowfall of the season.

"It does look nice and I'm glad it's around the holiday area," Ludvigsen said. "Right now here in December it's nice."

Snow emergencies are in effect in Minneapolis and St. Paul. So be sure to check where you are parked on the street. You don't want to get towed. Plymouth, Mendota Heights, Robbinsdale and St. Louis Park have also declared snow emergencies.
