Weekend Snow A Welcomed Sight For Winter Outdoor Enthusiasts

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- People spent some time enjoying the fresh powder Sunday after several inches of snow fell around the Twin Cities this weekend.

The amount of people on a sled, skis or a snowmobile is a true testament to how people embrace winter weather in Minnesota.

Steven Nelson of Minneapolis says cross-country skiing is a good cardio workout for the winter. Minneapolis is home to more than 20 miles of cross-country ski trails. Whether he's taking in the views of downtown Minneapolis, or overlooking the scenic lakes, Nelson makes this winter sport a regular activity.

"I spent time in warmer climates and even in the northeast I thought I knew winter," said Nelson. "So it took me a while to get used to the fact this was not going anywhere for months."

Same goes for Natalia Peters, who moved to Minnesota from Brazil eight years ago.

"I want to go skiing, I want to go ice skating," said Peters. "I'm living here now and that's what I should do."

Peters and her husband took their daughter sledding when they saw the snow Sunday morning. They say the first thing she said on Sunday morning us she wanted to play outside. Her wish was granted.

Here is some information on buying a ski pass in Minneapolis.
