Reflecting On Minnesota’s Miserable Sports Weekend

Let’s recap your weekend, shall we?

The Timberwolves lost their 14th and 15th in a row Friday and Saturday night.

The Wild were outscored a combined 7-2 in losses to Nashville and Chicago, and have now lost five in a row and 11 of their last 13.

Gopher men’s basketball blew a 9-point lead with less than 8 to play at Michigan and lost their fourth in a row.

Men’s hockey was swept in Michigan, too, and has now lost three of four.

15-Game Losing Streak Isn’t Timberwolves’ Worst

The Minnesota Timberwolves have now lost 15 games in a row. The latest loss came Saturday night to the San Antonio Spurs, 108 to 93. Minnesota plays again Tuesday night against the Pacers.

Austin Daye scored a season-high 22 points and had 10 rebounds to help the San Antonio Spurs hand the Minnesota Timberwolves their 15th straight loss, 108-93 on Saturday night. Patty Mills scored 19 points and Tim Duncan added 13 points and six rebounds in 20 minutes for the Spurs (23-15), who were missing Manu Ginobili and Marco Belinelli with injuries.

Bucks Hand Timberwolves 14th Straight Loss, 98-84

Brandon Knight scored 14 points, O.J. Mayo and John Henson each had 12, and the Milwaukee Bucks handed the Minnesota Timberwolves their 14th straight loss, 98-84 on Friday night.

Timberwolves Sign Miroslav Raduljica To 10-Day Contract

The Minnesota Timberwolves announced Thursday they’ve signed center Miroslav Raduljica to a 10-day contract. Raduljica was not selected in the 2010 NBA Draft, but was signed by the Milwaukee Bucks in July 2013.

Afflalo, Nuggets Hand Timberwolves 12th Straight Loss

Gorgui Dieng tied a career high with 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Shabazz Muhammad added 19 points and six boards for Minnesota. The Timberwolves shot just 43 percent and have not won since Dec. 10 while playing without Ricky Rubio, Nikola Pekovic and Kevin Martin.

Wiggins Named Western Conference Rookie Of The Month

The NBA announced Monday that Andrew Wiggins has been named the Western Conference Rookie of the Month for December. It’s the first time a Timberwolves player has won the honor twice in the same season. Wiggins also got It in November.

Kings Hand Wolves 10th Straight Loss

Rudy Gay had 21 points, six rebounds and five assists, and the struggling Sacramento Kings handed the Minnesota Timberwolves their 10th straight loss with a 110-107 victory on Thursday night. DeMarcus Cousins had 19 points and seven rebounds after being ejected one night earlier, and the Kings shot 54 percent while each of their starters scored in double figures.

Hayward Helps Jazz Rally To Beat Timberwolves

Gordon Hayward scored 11 of his 26 points in the final four minutes to help the Utah Jazz rally to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 100-94 on Tuesday night. Trey Burke set a career-high with 26 points and Derrick Favors had 15 points. Before the game it was announced that starting guard Alec Burks would have shoulder surgery and miss the rest of the season.

Love, Cavaliers Roll Over Timberwolves 125-104

Kevin Love scored 20 points in his first game against Minnesota, Kyrie Irving added 29 and the Cleveland Cavaliers pulled away in the second half for a 125-104 victory over the Timberwolves on Tuesday night. Love’s reunion with the team he spent six frustrating seasons with before a summer blockbuster trade was overshadowed by an injury to Cleveland center Anderson Varejao, who had to be helped off the floor in the third quarter.

Kelly Olynyk scored 21 points and the Boston Celtics showed crisp ball movement as they began the post-Rajon Rondo era with a 114-98 win over the struggling Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night. One day after trading their star point guard to the Dallas Mavericks, the Celtics had six players score in double figures in their third straight victory, all against teams that have combined for just 17 wins this season.
