A 61-year-old man is counting his blessings, happy to be alive after his boat capsized while duck hunting. Gary Veenhuis fell into Pelican Lake in Buffalo Township before sunrise Monday morning. The Albertville man was in the cold water for more than two hours. Then a stranger came along.

Hundreds Gather To Remember Monticello Track Star

Family, friends and teammates remembered the life of a college athlete killed in a tragic accident. Phillip LaVallee was a cross country and track star at Monticello High School and was heading into his sophomore year at South Dakota State. The 19-year-old was hit and killed last month while out on a training run, three miles from his parents’ home in Otsego.

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office says a suspicious man who was taking pictures in Albertville wasn’t taking pictures of children, but was a real estate person photographing a foreclosed home. At about 12:40 p.m. last Friday, two juvenile females recently reported a man taking photos of them in Albertville.

The right lane of westbound I-94 one mile west of Wright County Road closed Tuesday evening due to a buckled concrete panel. Crews will repair the segment of pavement, located west of Albertville, on Tuesday night and all westbound lanes will reopen by 10 a.m. Wednesday.
