Hollins Set For Wolves Pre-Draft Workout Group

Former Gophers standout Austin Hollins will take part in a pre-draft workout for the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Timberwolves announced a list of six pro prospects scheduled to be on the court for drills in front of team officials at Target Center on Thursday, including Hollins, Louisville forward Chane Behanan and Oregon forward Mike Moser.

Minnesota Beats SMU 65-63 To Win NIT

Austin Hollins hit a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 46.1 seconds left and Minnesota won the NIT championship Thursday night, beating SMU 65-63 to give the Pitino family its latest postseason tournament title. Hollins scored 19 points and Andre Hollins had 14 for the Golden Gophers (25-13), who took home the trophy for the third time. They also won the National Invitation Tournament in 1993 and ’98, though the second one was vacated because of an NCAA rules violation involving player eligibility.

Minnesota Beats Florida State 67-64 In OT At NIT

The Pitino family still has a chance to win a championship this season. Substitute center Maurice Walker made six free throws in overtime and Minnesota held off Florida State 67-64 Tuesday night to reach the NIT title game at Madison Square Garden.

Austin Hollins scored 18 points, Deandre Mathieu added 13 and Andre Hollins hit a late 3-pointer Thursday to give Minnesota a badly needed 63-56 win over Penn State in the Big Ten tournament. The seventh-seeded Golden Gophers (20-12) advanced to Friday night’s quarterfinal against No. 12 Wisconsin with their third win in four games. 10th-seeded Penn State (15-17) had a miserable night shooting, making only 32.2 percent from the field. D.J. Newbill had 16 points and senior Tim Frazier added 11. Penn State heads home from Indianapolis after losing for the third time in four games.

Andre Hollins scored 18 points and Austin Hollins added 13 as Minnesota finished non-conference play with a 65-44 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday night. Even though it was a ragged win over an obscure smaller school, Andre Hollins said it was another step in preparation for the spotlight of Big Ten play. “I come out every day like Texas Corpus Christi is Michigan St. That’s the mentality you need,” he said.

Austin Hollins Named Big 10 Player Of Week

Minnesota senior Austin Hollins has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week for men’s basketball. The award was announced by the conference on Monday. Hollins crossed the 1,000-point mark for his career last week in leading the Gophers to a 75-59 victory over South Dakota State. He posted his third double-double, with 20 points and 14 rebounds in 30 minutes. The small forward is averaging 13.8 points and 7.4 rebounds over 11 games. He’s seventh in the Big Ten in rebounds.
