Bemidji police are investigating the death of a woman who they say was found dead early Saturday morning. On Oct. 4 at 6:08 a.m., Bemidji police, along with an ambulance, responded to the report of a possibly deceased person on the 500 block of Paul Bunyan Drive South. When they arrived, the woman was found dead.
The Department of Natural Resources say they have confirmed the presence of adult zebra mussels for the first time in a Bemidji-area lake. Officials say they were found on one of Cass Lake’s most popular beaches.
A Bemidji woman who allegedly allowed her 6-year-old cousin to freeze to death has been found incompetent to stand trial. Twenty-two-year-old Rachel Stacey Downer was charged with manslaughter in the death of Mercedes Mayfield.

Two men were arrested early Friday morning in Cass County after they allegedly kidnapped and stabbed another man they knew from Facebook. Twenty-two-year-old Sheldon James Armstrong, III, of Cass Lake, Minn., and 18-year-old Travis Richard Paquette, of Bemidji, Minn., both face one count each of first degree attempted murder, kidnapping, second degree assault with a dangerous weapon and theft of a motor vehicle.
The Minnesota Department of Health says two more cases of E. coli infection have been confirmed in the state. The department said Thursday it has been able to interview 14 of the 15 cases. Through the interviews, investigators confirmed that 12 of the ill people ate at an Applebee’s restaurant in Minnesota between June 23 and June 29.
Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office and Headwaters SWAT team responded to a call of shots being fired at the Red Lake Indian Reservation in northwestern Minnesota. According to Beltrami County Sherriff’s Office, officers responded to a call for mutual aid assistance from the Red Lake Police department at 6:30 a.m. Friday.
Three elderly people have died in two separate traffic crashes in Minnesota. The Minnesota State Patrol says an 89-year-old man and 87-year-old woman died in a head-on crash on Highway 71 near Bemidji Tuesday afternoon. The patrol says the couple’s southbound car was struck by a northbound vehicle. No information was available on the driver of the northbound vehicle.
Bemidji saw black and blue on Friday morning, but the wild incident ended with a peaceful nap. Police were called to the Paul Bunyan Park near the area of 12th Street Northeast and Lake Blvd. at about 6 a.m. A number of people reported seeing a black bear in the area.

A Cass County teen has been charged with felony wildlife arson after intentionally setting a blaze Wednesday that damaged over 70 acres and endangered several homes. Anthony James Wittner, 17, told investigators he started a forest fire because mosquitoes were bothering him, according to the Cass County Attorney’s Office.

A suspect is in custody in Hubbard County after a 10-mile pursuit ended in a two police officers firing their guns. Ty Justin Andree, 23, of Bemidji was taken into custody Friday night after fleeing Becker County deputies who attempted to stop him when they identified Andree’s car as one suspected in the theft from a Detroit Lakes liquor store.

Authorities in northern Minnesota are looking for suspects in a burglary last month after an empty money bag was turned into a Bemidji bank. The Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office said the burglary happened at a residence in northern Hubbard County, likely between Feb. 9-13.
