Three-year-old James Tufts is throwing his hat into the race for Mayor of Dorset. You’ll remember his older brother Robert served two terms in the small northwestern Minnesota town. James found a ringing endorsement in Bobby.

WCCO’s summer road trip continued Thursday with Mike Binkley and Liz Collin, who are Park Rapids, Minn. The city is about three-and-a-half hours northwest of the Twin Cities.They found the Mississippi River’s headwaters at Itasca State Park. Countless visitors have stood right at the beginning of the Mississippi River’s 2,552-mile journey to the Gulf of Mexico. This is one of the must-see stops if you’re visiting Park Rapids.
He’s possibly the most adorable city leader in the state, but Mayor Bobby Tufts is now out of office. We first introduced you to the pre-school-aged mayor during last year’s fishing opener.
It’s summer, which means you have about three months to eat as much ice cream as you can. You might prefer malts or cones, but we wanted to find the best ice cream sundae in Minnesota. Your votes sent me three hours northwest of the cities to the Dorset House.
Friday was our last 4 p.m. show at the Great Minnesota Get-Together, and we brought in Dorset’s world-famous 4-year-old mayor to the ‘CCO booth.
In the final hours of his campaign, Dorset’s incumbent mayor left nothing to chance. With cards in hand he spent all day stumping at the annual taste of Dorset. “I got up super early before anyone,” Bobby said. He hoped to win support from the thousands of undecided voters. For just $1 per vote, people submitted names to the town’s ballot boxes during the Taste of Dorset Festival.
