The Minnesota House was going on record about how to pour billions more into road and bridge construction. A Republican-crafted proposal to direct $7 billion to projects over the next decade was slated for a vote Tuesday. As drafted, it would redirect existing taxes on auto parts, vehicle leases and car rentals to construction and borrow billions more.
The winter months bring many snowmobilers, ice anglers and other winter sports enthusiasts to the St. Croix River. But this year, they’re finding that there’s one area that’s off limits. For Guthrie Pritchard, the icy surface of the St. Croix River creates the perfect terrain for four wheels and a sled. “It’s fun and I can pull my friends around, and I can throw myself off and wipe out,” Pritchard said.
Anyone heading out onto the St. Croix River will have to abide by a new rule. The new bridge construction is underway and a no-wake zone is in effect for nearly a mile along the river.
