Fast food workers and union supporters briefly took over a Minneapolis McDonald’s restaurant Thursday. It was part of a nationwide protest in 150 cities by fast food workers demanding a $15-an-hour minimum wage.
Years before Burger King sized up a Canadian headquarters in a hunt for lower taxes, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike McFadden’s investment firm was involved in a merger that moved an American pharmaceutical company to Ireland and significantly dropped its tax rate. McFadden’s Minnesota-based firm made more than $11 million, according to public filings.
Burger King’s stock jumped 21 percent Monday on the news the company is in talks to merge with Canadian-based Tim Horton’s. The move is called tax inversion, a change in the location of its headquarters that would let the fast-food company pay fewer taxes in the U.S.
Authorities say a tip from an ex-wife pointed them to a Sartell man suspected in a string of armed robberies along Interstate 94 from the St. Cloud area to the Minneapolis suburbs. Police released a security video after a masked man robbed a Burger King in Maple Grove Wednesday. The ex-wife of 34-year-old Douglas Wayne Gravelle saw the video on the news and told police he wore the same clothes at a child support hearing. She said he’s addicted to prescription drugs and unemployed.

On Tuesday, Burger King released a healthier french fry: the Satisfry. The fast-food restaurant says it has 20 percent fewer calories and 25 percent percent less fat compared to regular fries. It’s made with a different batter so less oil is absorbed.
Police are looking for the suspect who robbed a Monticello Burger King at gunpoint early Thursday morning. The Wright County Sheriff’s Office said an employee was leaving a the parking lot of the Burger King at 945 Ash Street in Clearwater at 12:43 a.m. when a man tapped on the car window with a black handgun. The employee fled the scene, leaving the suspect, who was dressed in all black.
Residents in Minneapolis now have one more option for ordering in. Burger King announced plans Tuesday to expand their services to include home delivery in two more cities.
