An 18-year-old western Wisconsin man is dead after authorities say he fell while “car surfing” early Saturday morning, according to the La Crosse Police Department. The fatal car accident occurred in the early morning hours Saturday, between midnight and 2 a.m., in the area of East Avenue, south of Losey Boulevard in La Crosse.
A St. Paul man was sentenced Wednesday for his role in a “car surfing” accident in August 2012 that killed 21-year-old Shawn Swanson, also of St. Paul. Cole T. Fohrenkamm, 22, was sentenced for reckless driving and will serve three years of probation, 30 days in jail and will complete 300 hours of community service after the incident that took place last year near Oakland, Wis. One-quarter of Fohrenkamm’s community service has to involve educating others about the dangers of drinking and alcohol.
