A St. Paul, Minn. man is among six climbers who went missing on Mount Rainier in Washington Saturday. Mark Mahaney, 26, began climbing Mt. Rainier with a group on Monday. According to his uncle, Rob Mahaney, his last check in was Wednesday evening. According to Rob, Mark was an experienced climber, this was his second time climbing Mt. Rainier, and his group was accompanied by two guides, one of which had climbed the mountain 50 times.
Thirteen people are now confirmed dead and three are still missing after an avalanche hit the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest. The avalanche barreled down a narrow climbing pass where Sherpa guides were making their way up. The guides were hauling gear to the higher camps for climbers to use in their attempt to reach the summit next month.
