Some 20,000 to 30,000 vehicles a day make the drive up Interstate 35, between the Twin Cities and Duluth. They are largely students, business people and tourists heading up to the North Shore.
Years of debate surrounding the Southwest light rail transit project has led to a plan some Minneapolis City Council members call incomplete. But council members nonetheless voted to approve the latest plans for the railway that will connect suburbs like Eden Prairie, St. Louis Park, and Minnetonka to Minneapolis.
Thursday will give residents a chance to weigh in on a proposed high-speed passenger rail line between Minneapolis and Duluth.
The Northstar rail service will resume operations on Tuesday, days after a freight train derailment stalled operations over the weekend.
