One person is in custody after a man reported being assaulted in his home by an unknown male. Corey William Becker, 21, of Grand Rapids, is being held at Stearns County Jail in connection with the incident. According to the St. Cloud Police Department, authorities responded to a report of a burglary in the 1000 block of 36th Avenue North in St. Cloud, Minn.

A 62-year-old Maple Plain man is dead after his ATV crashed into a wide load tractor trailer late Monday night near Grand Rapids in northern Minnesota, the state patrol said. According to the patrol, Brian Johnson was going southbound on Highway 65 just south of Pengilly, Minn., when he crossed over and collided with the wide load trailer that was going northbound in the other lane.
A Kmart in Grand Rapids was evacuated Saturday afternoon after a bomb threat, according to police. At 2:10 p.m., Grand Rapids Police responded to a reported bomb threat at the Kmart at 1111 Pokegama Ave. S. after employees received a call from someone claiming to have left a bomb somewhere in the store. Police closed, evacuated and thoroughly searched the store. Employees and customers were eventually allowed re-entry.
The Grand Rapids Police Department has identified the 5-year-old boy who drowned after going under the water in Crystal Lake Saturday.
With high temperatures and drought conditions in parts of the state, fire officials are warning about the risk of wildfires and urging people to be careful in dry areas. Tom Fasteland is a coordinator with the Minnesota Interagency Fire Center in Grand Rapids. He says part of the state is still covered with green vegetation, which reduces the risk of fire, but the landscape can change quickly in a heat wave. He says people should be careful in recreational parts of the state. He says areas around Bemidji, Detroit Lakes and Cass Lake are dry, and in parts of northern and central Minnesota the fire-danger rating is “high” or “very high.”
A 5-year-old boy drowned Saturday afternoon after trying to climb on top of a swimming raft on a Grand Rapids lake, according to police. Authorities responded to a report of a possible drowning at Crystal Lake at 1:30 p.m. Upon arrival, first responders pulled the boy from the water. He was taken to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital where he later died.
Authorities in Crow Wing County say they do not plan to file charges against the officer involved in a high-speed chase that ended with the suspect being shot. The July 4 incident started after officers responded to a domestic assault call.
