Staff and visitors at Hennepin County Medical Center in downtown Minneapolis had a tense morning after a man’s threat caused the building to go into lockdown. The incident happened at about 11 a.m. when a hospital staffer reported that a man was threatening to use a gun.

Two people are hospitalized after a shooting in downtown Minneapolis early Saturday morning. According to Minneapolis Police, the shooting happened near a light rail platform on the 300 block of Fifth Street North near Target Field at about 3 a.m.

Apple Valley Woman Charged In Fatal Crash Caused By Cell Phone

A 29-year-old woman will face criminal charges for a fatal crash in Apple Valley last April which killed a 66-year-old man. According to the Dakota County Attorney’s office, Amanda Leanna Schlachter of Apple Valley was charged Wednesday with one count of criminal vehicular homicide and three counts of criminal vehicular operation resulting in substantial bodily harm in connection with a crash on April 6, 2013.

2 Hit By Stray Bullets, 3 Arrested In Downtown Mpls. Shootout

Police arrested three people after an overnight shooting in downtown Minneapolis Saturday which injured two women. The incident happened on 2nd Avenue near 5th Street at about 2:30 a.m. when passengers from two separate cars began firing shots at each other, according to Minneapolis Police. Two women in a third and fourth car were hit by stray bullets

Train Crashes With FedEx Delivery Truck In Yellow Medicine County

Police said a FedEx delivery truck and BNSF freight train collided Friday afternoon in Yellow Medicine County. The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s office responded to a 911 call that a FedEx delivery truck and BNSF train crashed around 2 p.m. Friday at the rail crossing with Yellow Medicine County Road 39.

Minneapolis House Fire Ruled Accidental

Firefighters rescued three people from a two-alarm fire at a Minneapolis group home Thursday evening. According to the Minneapolis Fire Department, crews responded to a report of a fire at 2524 Portland Ave. just after 7 p.m., where they found heavy smoke coming from the two-and-a-half-story group home. Crews extinguished fire in the attic, second floor and rear portion of the house.

Woman Hit, Dragged By Truck Near Lake Calhoun ID’d

The woman stuck and dragged by a commercial truck near Lake Calhoun Wednesday is in critical condition at Hennepin County Medical Center. According to Minneapolis Police, 25-year-old Caitlan Christine Barton was trying to walk across West Lake Street on a green light, when she was hit by a truck. The driver, whose vehicle was initially next to Barton as they waited at the red light, began to turn onto Lake Street from West Market Plaza while Barton began walking.

Woman Hit By Truck, Critically Injured Near Lake Calhoun

A woman suffered critical injuries Wednesday night when she was hit by a commercial truck in a busy shopping center near Lake Calhoun. John Elder, a Minneapolis police spokesman, says the woman had been waiting at a red light at 6:15 p.m., trying to cross West Lake Street.

Student Donates Kidney To Mpls. Cop

A Minneapolis Police officer battling lupus and kidney failure received a life-changing transplant this week. Carlos Escobar, 35, is recovering at Hennepin County Medical Center. He spent two years on a waiting list for a kidney donation. After working a full day as a police officer, he would come home and spend seven hours on dialysis, hoping and praying a donor would come through. “I never expected it to be too soon because they told me with my blood type, it could be seven years,” Escobar said

14 Hospitalized For Burns, Broken Bones In Apt. Fire

Authorities say more than a dozen people were taken to hospitals after a fire engulfed several apartments near downtown Minneapolis. WCCO talked with a family member of one of the victims being treated at HCMC who also lived in the building. He said he has nothing left but the jacket he was wearing on his back.
