Hobey Baker Award
As the University of Minnesota men’s hockey team is getting ready to play in the Big Ten Tournament, one of its own is a finalist for the top honor in college hockey. Junior defenseman Mike Reilly has been named one of 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award.
The University of Minnesota announced Thursday goalie Adam Wilcox has been named one of 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award, which goes to the top player in college hockey.
The all-day celebration of Minnesota’s official sport is underway across the State of Hockey on Saturday. Outdoor hockey is at its finest at picturesque Handke Pit in Elk River. Mayor John Dietz says it’s a special venue with a lot of history. “You know, it’s kind of a rebirth of how the sport was born. It’s just a unique type of thing,” Dietz said.
In a matter of hours, forward Drew LeBlanc of St. Cloud State won the Hobey Baker Award – given to the nation’s top college hockey player – and signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks.
North Dakota senior forwards Corban Knight and Danny Kristo are among 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey’s best player.
Minnesota-Duluth center Jack Connolly won the Hobey Baker Award on Friday night as the top college hockey player.
Ten finalists have been announced for the 2012 Hobey Baker Memorial Award honoring college hockey’s top player.
