St. Louis Park Man Pleads Guilty In Impaired Crash That Killed Store Owner

A 20-year-old St. Louis Park man has pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal vehicular homicide in the April 15 death of a hardware store owner, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.

Traffic Deaths Related To Impaired Driving Decreases In 2013

The number of traffic deaths caused by impaired driving decreased by nine percent in 2013, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. Officials said impaired-related traffic fatalities in Minnesota dropped to 95 in 2013 from 104 in 2012.

DPS: Extra DWI, Impaired Driving Patrols Through Labor Day

Drivers should expect to see more officers out on the roads searching for drunk drivers beginning this weekend. From Aug. 16 through Sept. 1, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety will increase DWI enforcement and highlight their education campaign.

Drug Recognition Program Revamped After Controversy

Big changes are in store for a program meant to help law enforcement take impaired drivers off the streets. State leaders are revamping the Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE) training program after allegations of misconduct during the Occupy protests at Peavey Plaza last spring. Witnesses posted videos online, and claimed an officer was offering drugs to protesters to get them to participate in the program.

State Patrol: 43 Impaired Drivers Arrested

Forty-three impaired drivers were arrested between noon Saturday and 4 a.m. Sunday, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
