There is a certain type of police officer who is more prone to injuries that others — K-9s. The University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine is trying to remedy that. They offered a new course for officers from all over the metro.
Police canines are usually the first members of law enforcement to enter a dangerous situation. Members of law enforcement tell WCCO that caring for K-9s is quite expensive. Plymouth Police Officer Matt Gliniany says it costs roughly $13,000 to raise and care for a typical police dog.
In the season where hundreds of homes are decorated with holiday displays, there’s one residence in Bloomington that always draws a crowd. An oak tree in Bob Little’s yard shines bright every year, attracting spectators from all over. In the light of day, an old oak tree may not inspire the holiday spirit. “There isn’t Santa Clauses moving, and things spinning, and red this and green that,” Little said.
The Minneapolis Police Department is holding a graduation ceremony to honor its newest K-9 officers and their partners. A total of seven officers have recently graduated from K-9 training with their new partners.
