The possibility of more precious metal mining proposals in northern Minnesota took another step forward on Friday after the state’s executive council approved 31 leases of state and private lands to three mining companies seeking exploration.
A Plymouth woman is dead after her husband lost control of his motorcycle while driving in Indiana Thursday morning, according to authorities. Lori K. Rutten, 55, and her husband Roger, 59, where driving northbound on I-65 in Lake County on a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle when Roger switched lanes and struck an uneven portion of the road. The motorcycle flipped, and both passengers were ejected over barrier cables, eventually landing on a grassy portion of the median.
Authorities say a body was found after a cabin fire east of Ely on Greenstone Lake. The Duluth News Tribune reports the fire happened early Monday. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office says a man called 911 to say his 49-year-old friend was inside a burning cabin and couldn’t make it out. The cabin was on the south shore of Greenstone Lake and could only be accessed by water.
