Over the next few days, there will be many people watching the NCAA tournament with a beer by their side. And when they do, there’s a good chance that beer will be light. According to Beer Marketers Insights, Bud Light was the top-selling beer in 2012, making up more than 18 percent of the entire beer market. Light beer was invented in the 1960s by a biochemist who believed many people didn’t like beer because they were afraid it would make them gain weight. Ultimately, that beer became the precursor to Miller Lite.
Metro Transit and Miller Lite will provide free bus and light rail rides on New Year’s Eve for the third year in a row. From 6 p.m. till the last scheduled trip, residents will be treated to complimentary rides on all Metro Transit buses and light rail, METRO Blue and Red lines, Plymouth Metrolink, Anoka County and Minnesota Valley Transit Authority buses. Metro Transit officials say they have provided more than one million rides through the Miller Free Rides Program on New Year’s Eve, and for the last 16 years on St. Patrick’s Day.
It’s St. Patrick’s Day, and if it turns out that you’re have a little too much fun out there, consider riding a Metro Transit light rail train.
