A Reading woman was sentenced Friday to 90 days in jail after 15 horses were found dead on her property in March of 2014. The Nobles County Attorney’s office says Joan Mary Moore, 56, pleaded guilty to five counts of animal neglect.
This winter could be particularly difficult for Minnesota horse owners after drought and disease have led to a shortage of hay. That makes it extra expensive for owners, and animal rescue groups are saddling up for a tough road ahead. It’s all due to alfalfa crops not faring well in the last year.
Horse lovers have formed a “hay bank” to help Minnesota horse owners who’ve fallen on hard times and need help feeding their animals.
