Minnesota Racing Commission
The former chairman of the Minnesota Racing Commission has stepped down entirely from the agency less than a week after being cleared of allegations he discriminated against and harassed a female employee.
Gov. Mark Dayton is keeping Jesse Overton as a member of the Minnesota Racing Commission but has designated a new appointee to succeed him as chairman. The governor named Ralph Stangis to head the commission Monday.
The Canterbury Park horse race track has agreed to drop its long pursuit of slot machines in exchange for the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community paying the track $75 million to fatten its purses over 10 years, according to a deal announced Monday that protects the tribe’s lucrative nearby casinos.
