NCAA Hockey Tournament
Tiny Union College skated off with the biggest trophy in college hockey. And the Dutchmen did it at the expense of two of the sport’s giants, toppling Minnesota for its first NCAA title after beating Boston College in the semifinals.
Minnesota is the top overall seed in the NCAA hockey tournament. Boston College, Union and Wisconsin also received No. 1 seeds when the 16-team field was announced Sunday.
Aaron Dell made 25 saves and North Dakota beat Western Michigan 3-1 on Saturday to advance to the NCAA hockey regional finals.
North Dakota has returned to the Xcel Energy Center ice for more tournament action. Minnesota will be there, too, trying to get that ticket to the Frozen Four instead.
