New York Liberty
It’s all starting to click for Tina Charles and the New York Liberty. Charles scored a career-high 32 points to lead the Liberty to an 87-80 win over Maya Moore and the defending champion Minnesota Lynx on Sunday. “We’re starting to play better and I’m being more aggressive doing what my team needs,” said Charles, who had 28 points in the Liberty’s previous game.
The Minnesota Lynx hope they are starting to peak. Playing well as team has to do with knowing each other well, and Janelle McCarville has shown she knows her teammates strengths and how to highlight them. Now in her second season and second time through Minnesota, she can be the subtle difference the Lynx need to stay ahead.
The Minnesota Lynx have traded second-year guard Sugar Rodgers to the New York Liberty for the rights to swap third-round picks in the 2015 draft. The Lynx announced the move on Wednesday. Rodgers was chosen in the second round last season, but played only sparingly on a veteran-laden team. She averaged 1.9 points in 7.6 minutes per game last season.
Maya Moore scored a season-high 28 points, including six 3-pointers, and the Minnesota Lynx beat the New York Liberty 88-57 Sunday night to end a three-game losing streak. Seimone Augustus and Janel McCarville each had 12 points for the Lynx (18-6), who moved one-half game ahead of Los Angeles atop the Western Conference standings.
