The wife of a man accused of killing his neighbor in New Brighton, Minn. now faces criminal charges, according to the Ramsey County Attorney’s office. Paula Zumberge, 50, was charged Thursday with one count of aiding and abetting second-degree murder and one count of aiding and abetting second-degree attempted murder.
The suspect In the shooting death of a St. Paul woman told authorities that he was hearing voices when he allegedly shot her in the head and then tried to shoot her father Wednesday evening. According to the Ramsey County Attorney’s office, 19-year-old Timothy Scott Hendricks was charged with one count of second-degree murder in the death of his former girlfriend, 20-year-old Michelle Ploetz, and one count of second-degree attempted murder of her father, 45-year-old John Ploetz.
Prosecutors say they want St. Paul Police to reopen a sexual abuse case against Archbishop John Nienstedt, but not because of any new evidence. The Ramsey County Attorney’s office told WCCO that it doesn’t want reports from the Nienstedt case being made public yet because of other elements that need to be investigated. They say those other elements don’t have anything to do with the archbishop.

A South St. Paul man pleaded guilty Wednesday in a Ramsey County Court to the murder of a staff sergeant in the Minnesota National Guard. According to the Ramsey County Attorney’s office, Aaron William Allen, 26, admitted to shooting 25-year-old Brandon James Horst as he was asleep at his St. Paul home on Aug. 5. 2013. Allen also admitted in Ramsey County Court Wednesday that Horst’s wife, 25-year-old Heather Leanne Horst.

A Chicago man was sentenced Friday to more than 26 years in prison for the sex trafficking of a teenage girl – which may be the longest sentence ever given in Minnesota for such a crime. According to the Ramsey County Attorney’s office, Arteco Marvell Rhodes, 38, was found guilty on Nov. 1 on one count of engaging in sex trafficking in the first degree and possession of child pornography. Rhodes met the defendant, a 15-year-old girl, in Chicago in March, and asked her if she “wanted to make money and be part of the family.” Within weeks, Rhodes drove the teen and a 19-year-old woman from Chicago to the Twin Cities in a conversion van.
Four family members have now been convicted for participating in a sex trafficking ring that last about two years, extended to multiple Minnesota communities and victimized many vulnerable women. On Wednesday, the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office announced that 30-year-old Otis Deno Washington, of St. Paul, was found guilty in Ramsey County District Court on multiple sex trafficking counts. According to a press release, they are: two counts of promotion of prostitution; two counts of solicitation, one involving a minor; and one count of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking.

A Vadnais Heights woman is charged with one count of criminal vehicular homicide after the hit-and-run death of a 92-year-old motorcyclist in St. Paul on Friday morning. According to the Ramsey County Attorney’s office, 27-year-old Autumn Brenae Mason stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Ivy Avenue and Prosperity Avenue at 7:45 a.m. Roy W. Kromschroeder, 92, was also at a stopped at the intersection, which is controlled by stop signs in all directions.
A 61-year-old Ham Lake man is accused of swindling money out of an elderly woman from St. Paul, according to charges filed by the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office. Investigators are calling Kent Meyer the “Sweetheart Swindler.”

A jury found a 20-year-old man guilty of a gang-related shooting last October that left a woman dead in an SUV in an alley behind a St. Paul church. Joseph Campbell was found guilty Thursday in the death of Neressa Turner on Oct. 14, 2012, the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office said. After the verdict, Campbell was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
