A Columbia Heights man faces charges after a home invasion robbery and assault last week, the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday. On June 5, police officers responded to the incident at the 4100 block of Jefferson Street Northeast.

The University of Minnesota has issued a crime alert after someone was assaulted and robbed by three men near the West Bank campus Thursday night. According to University officials, someone not affiliated with the U of M was walking near the intersection of Riverside Avenue and 20th Avenue South at about 8:30 p.m. when three men approached the victim from behind.

The FBI and Brooklyn Park Police are looking for a man who robbed a U.S. Bank by gunpoint Thursday afternoon. Police say a man with a black handgun walked into the bank located on 7600 Broadway Ave. at 1:30 p.m. and ordered everyone to get on the ground. He left with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled westbound on 76th Avenue in a gray or silver GMC Yukon or Cadillac Escalade.
A St. Paul teen was sentenced Wednesday to more than 23 years in prison for the shooting death of a West St. Paul man in January of 2013, according to the Dakota County Attorney’s office. Donovan Michael Diego, 19, was convicted of second-degree intentional murder in connection with the death of 31-year-old David-Reyes-Galvan on January 11, 2013. Diego, who was 16 at the time of the crime, were indicted by a Dakota County grand jury last October alongside Cristino Andres Rosario and Malik Jamal Alize Farmer.
New Hope Police are investigating an armed robbery at a restaurant Friday morning. The robbery occurred at the Pizza Hut at 7500 Bass Lake Road at 10 a.m., when two suspects entered the restaurant and showed an employee a dark-colored handgun. The men then tied up a female employee, who was able to call police after they left. She was not injured during the robbery.
The New Brighton Department of Public Safety is asking for the public’s help in locating the suspects involved in an armed robbery at a gas station. At approximately 5:54 a.m. Friday, NBDPS responded to a report of a robbery involving a firearm at a gas station at Silver Lake Road and West County Road E, according to the NBDPS Facebook page.

A second teenager accused of assaulting a former Minneapolis mayoral candidate has been charged Monday, according to Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman. Seventeen-year-old Deea Leshawn Elliot was charged by juvenile petition with two counts of aggravated first-degree robbery and one count of second-degree assault for an attack on Mark Andrew, 63, at the Mall of America on Thursday. According to the criminal complaint, a young man grabbed Andrew’s iPhone from him in a Starbucks at the MOA. Andrew chased after the suspect, but was stopped by Elliot and 18-year-old Letajia Cutler Cain, who blocked the shop’s door.
