Fmr. Gopher Star To Sue Robbinsdale PD For Excessive Force

A routine traffic stop has led to a lawsuit against a Robbinsdale Police officer. Melvin Newbern, a former Gopher’s basketball star, is suing Officer Brian Sloat, claiming the officer used excessive force in an arrest in early 2013. Dash-cam video captured on the morning of Feb. 13, 2013 shows Sloat putting Newbern through a field sobriety test after stopping him on suspicion of drunk driving.

Warmer Temps Makes President’s Day Snow Bearable

When the snow is piled so high that your neighborhood is almost unrecognizable, why not grab your friends and pile on. While the kids built snow forts and had snowball fights in one Champlin neighborhood, the adults worked by clearing sidewalks and driveways. Katie Matzke says the milder temperatures make this storm much easier to endure. “Today is just great. The kids can get out and have so much fun in the snow, and get some of their wiggles out, whereas before when it was so cold they couldn’t even go outside,” Matzke said. “I mean, it was just plain too dangerous.

Man Suffers Gunshot Wound To Leg In Minneapolis

Minneapolis Police responded to a shooting on the 700 block of 21st Avenue North early Saturday morning. A man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg just before 3 a.m. Police say the victim was transported to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. There’s no word on what occurred before the shooting.

Family Devastated After Girl, 13, Dies In Crash On Way To School

The Minnesota State Patrol says they are investigating a fatal crash that happened near Milaca Tuesday morning. Few details were immediately available, but the crash happened along Highway 23 at 127th Avenue, about a mile to the west of the city’s elementary and high schools.

A red-hot Twin Cities restaurant just raised more than $250,000 from friends and fans to help build a new spot in Robbinsdale. The Kickstarter campaign hit its goal of $75,000 in just six hours. Two years ago, Travail was named one of the Best New Restaurants in America.

Travail Restaurant’s Kickstart Campaign Blows By Goal

A restaurant that tries to bring fine dining to the masses got a lot of help from those masses on Tuesday night. Travail in Robbinsdale closed down in April to change locations to a bigger space. On Tuesday it started a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to help build it with the goal of $75,000 in the next 30 days.

Monticello Father, 1-Year-Old Son In Critical Condition After Crash With Robbery Suspect

A high speed chase involving am armed robbery suspect and police results in a crash which seriously injures a father and his infant son in Wright County Monday night. According to Minnesota State Patrol Lt. Paul VanVoohris, the chase began after a robbery at Tootsies Tavern in Big Lake at approximately 5:40 p.m. The suspect, 47-year-old Kevin Greene, fled the tavern in an 1999 Chevy Suburban and crashed into a 2002 Honda Accord with two passengers shortly afterwards in Monticello at Riverview Drive and East Broadway Street.
