Man, 34, Charged In Crash That Killed Sandstone Teen

A 34-year-old man accused of drunken driving likely will be charged with criminal vehicular homicide in the death of a Sandstone teenager. Seventeen-year-old Colton Nelson was killed last week in a two-car accident near his home in rural Kanabec County. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Family Remembers Teen Son Killed By Suspected Drunk Driver

A suspected drunken driver is accused of killing a teenager who had a bright and promising future. Police say a truck driven by 34-year-old Charles Hendricks crashed into a car Monday night in rural Sandstone. Hendricks is in fair condition at North Memorial Hospital.

Cat Sanctuary Agrees To Improve Business Practices

The Wildcat Sanctuary in Sandstone has reached an agreement with the Minnesota attorney general’s office to improve its business practices. The sanctuary’s board announced the agreement Tuesday. It comes after an attorney general’s investigation into allegations of misuse of funds at the sanctuary.

A Minnesota man who carved the names of himself and his wife near the 1806 signature of explorer William Clark on a national monument in south-central Montana last fall has agreed to pay $4,400 in restitution and fines.

Pine Co. Teen Charged In Burglary That Left Accomplice Dead

A Pine County teenager is now charged in a home invasion that left a man dead. It happened after the intruders entered the house of a 75-year-old man around 2:30 a.m. Thursday. Officials said 23-year-old Gypsy Watts had a gun, and the homeowner shot and killed him. Investigators tell us Watts and a 16-year-old boy broke into the man’s house, hoping to steal his prescription medications.

A 16-year-old has been arrested in connection with a fatal home invasion in Pine County that happened Thursday morning. A Pine County homeowner in his 70s shot and killed an armed intruder breaking into his house in rural Sandstone at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

Warrant Issued For Predatory Offender Who Allegedly Violated Release Terms

Authorities are searching for a Level 3 predatory offender, who has been on fugitive status since Sunday for allegedly violating the terms of his supervised release. Rommel Heinrich Fritz is on intensive supervised release for first-degree criminal sexual conduct against an underage female and was released into the Sandstone, Minn., area on June 11 from the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Rush City.

Charges: Day Care Provider Was Drinking When Girl Wandered Onto Highway

A Pine County day care provider faces charges after a 22-month-old girl in her care walked away last week and onto a nearby highway. The little girl wasn’t hurt, but the day care provider told police she had been drinking vodka and taking cough syrup the afternoon the incident occurred, court documents say.
